Yes, here at Milwaukee Metal Fest. Yes. So I first have to say I dig your hair because I'm putt until about maybe almost a year ago. That's how my hair was for years. Yeah, hell ya. And it's a lot of fucking work.

0:46 Man, it is a lot of work right now that I got like, I decided just to chill out for a little while because I was going to Costa Rica surfing and I'm like, it doesn't make sense that blue air. But then after a little while, I was like, it's kind of nice not having and bring my own pillowcase everywhere, my own towel everywhere and bleed all. Over the truth. Very true, very true. That is a problem, right, but it looks good. Thank you. So I saw your guys sat here and man, you you fucking killed it. Just to be blunt. Thank you so much. That was super fun. It is and don't worry about who gives a fuck. There's playing noises. You could drop it again. It'll be like drums for the interview.

1:29 Hello, I just dropped a bush light on the ground. That's alcohol abuse. Just don't open it during Oh it's already opened. Okay, that's good because it would not have been good for the interview to open it up and spray it everywhere. Although that might have been interesting. So I do want to ask, how the hell do you get that voice come out of you? Lots of practice, right, And I bring. That question up, you know, because people don't realize, like so many people think when you sing like that that you're using some kind of a fact or some kind of thing, and it really it's just training and knowing how to sing it.

2:11 Yeah. Yeah, I don't have anything. I don't use any effects have anything on my voice, and a lot of people can't believe that. But no, I just we I've done it for a long time now. We've done enough tours where I kind of like consistently do it every night and learn how to do it the proper way. And yeah, well proper. Way is key because I used sing thrash melwhile as a teenager and I fried my voice yeah pretty quickly, because I didn't have technique. Yeah, you know, I don't even know if there was. Technique back then, you know, But then I watch people like you or like Courtney from Spirrit Box. Yeah, and like when I see her on stage, it's like I'm like fascinated by her mouth and how it forms to make those sounds, you know, and it just proves that that that's not a fact. That's yep, really knowing how to use your tool, your instrument.

3:05 Yeah, you know, vocals is an instrument. Yep, you're just making distortion with your vocal cords's yeah, exactly. Now I am curious after you do a whole set like that, how does your throat feel fine? I mean I'm talking right now. Find it? So? Yeah? It You know, sometimes on the road, I'll be sick and stuff, and I'm just pretty prone to getting sick, and that'll I'll go on vocal rest and stuff. But no, I usually don't have issues with that. And see, that's the training right there, that's the practice, that's the technique, because otherwise you'd be like. Yeah, yeah, and then it's no fun because then I usually am the one that runs to our merch booth and has to talk to everyone. So right, so, yeah, it's hard if I don't have a voice exactly.

3:55 And do you find people at the merch booth like kind of fascinated that your voice is just fine after doing that? Yeah, yeah, I get a lot of questions about my voice a lot nice but yeah, it's just it's fun. I think it makes it more fun that people don't expect that sound from me, exactly. It does. It makes it way more fun on stage. No, Now, so all three of you, what would you say is. The one thing that happened in your life that said to you, man, this is what I need to do. I think for me, I always wanted to thought I would sing and wanted to be on stage. I never, in my wildest dreams thought it would be death metal.

4:40 I want to know what you thought it would be originally. I mean I grew up with like classic rock and things like. But I mean I was a little girl like into boy bands and stuff and like pop and everything. But it slowly got heavier and heavier and heavier. And I was in a metalcore band for a while and I just slowly loved doing heavier things and then that kind of I want to make the weirdest, grossest noises with my voice, and this allows me to do that. I love it. I love it, how about you. It was just the literally the moment I picked up a guitar, I just got into rock music like a CDC stuff like that, and just loved pushing my playing further and further. And then I got into metal from there.

5:27 And that's it, man, just playing guitar. I just love it. And now I also want to keep the mic because I want to clarify another misconception about death metal, like death metal guitarists are some of the best fucking guitarists there are, because they actually are very technical guitarists. Yeah. Yeah, so tell me a little bit about that too, because a lot of people may think, ah, they're just sitting there and just hitting the same chord over and over again. Yeah it's noisy or whatever. Yeah yeah, no, no, for sure, dude. It takes a lot of practice and con then practice too. It's like you got to keep up on it because it's a very uh athletic type of thing, you know what I mean. You've got to have your your arms in shape and and uh yeah, man, it's it's it's super fun though.

6:14 Yeah, if you're not in shape, here's what I know happens is then while you're playing, your forearms are hurting because ye straining muscles, like your forearm controls your wrists, so when your wrist is strained. That hurts and and it tightens up. People really realize that, especially when you're playing so fast. Yeah. Man, I always give cred to people that play fast because I also tried to play guitar and sucked at that, and I can't. I can't even imagine, just like. You know, like yeah, and sometimes for like an hour just doing that over and over again. Like that's like it's like training for an MMBA match.

6:58 It is. It's almost like weightlifting. You Yeah, you have to have your muscles in shape, and you know, like the the older you get to, you get real sore sometimes and you got a stretch and you really have to take care of yourself. Yeah, totally. Okay, let's see, let's see what his expertise is on dropping beers. Yeah, well, definitely know a lot about that. I also dropped drumsticks too, though, that's okay. Yeah, I don't know what like moments specifically, I wanted to try to play drums on like a more serious level, but I've always just really since I started playing drums when I was I think I was like thirteen or so. Just always really enjoyed playing a lot and kind of like what Megan said, different styles, you know what I mean, Like if I couldn't be in a death metal band, I would go be in a rock band, or a jazz band, or a punk band or nice funk band, who know, you know whatever. So I just I really like to play drums. I like being in a band. I like the team aspect of it. I pay a lot of sports as like a kid, So I kind of like the group dynamic of a band.

8:04 I love hearing that because sometimes that's not the case. And like you see long term bands, you look at them up there, I mean, look at you know, Jane's addiction as an example. You know, it's it's like you don't like each other up there. That's weird, but it's not weird because it's like it's like being with your siblings twenty four seven. Right, yeah, yeah, exactly. I'm sure my obnoxious behavior can sometimes irk my bandmates, but you know, I mean, at the end of the day, like you know, we've all been through a lot together and we all do enjoy hanging out. With each other. So that's we're lucky to have that some bands, it's uh, you.

8:46 Know, it's key. Yeah, it's key because we as the fans can look up there and we can tell when you guys are just having a blast and are a cohesive force and when you're not right, you know. And I watched you up there saying like, you're just having the best time in the world. And if you're not having a best time while you're on stage, this is the wrong business because everything else pretty much sucks. Yeah, it's too it's too it's too hard to do, and it you don't make enough money, Like it's not worth doing if you don't actually just do it for the love of the game, you know what I mean, the game. Anything you get outside of that, it is kind of just like a bonus, you know what I mean, like a bonus or whatever. But you know, so.

9:28 They are too funny enough. First grade, I started on drums. Nice I got bored because my dad would never get me a drum set, and I had that stupid practice pad for years. Yeah, and then I got a bullshit drum set and I was like, fuck this, And that's why I went to guitar. Okay, fair enough. I do play a little big guitar myself, but I'm not much of a shredder. By any means. Well, you're having a family guitar players, so I had to like wear in his right of passage. There you go. So did they all give you a shit because you wanted to do drums in steak? Oh? They were glad they had someone that wanted to play drums instead of another person trying to play guitar. Right, well, that makes sense. Yeah, So what have you liked most about Milwaukee Metalfest so far?

10:17 I mean, we've our bands from Wisconsin, so obviously we're not I'm not from Wisconsin, might spend a lot of time in Wisconsin, so I like seeing a lot of our friends from both from the area. But because it's a really big festival, we also get to see a lot of our friends that don't live by us, you know. So I just like seeing everyone and enjoying like the metal community of you know what I mean? Yeah, friends, I guess we've made along the way here, and I also really do like it seeing all the There's a lot of classic bands here, so a lot of like bucket list bands that sometimes are bands that are like some og bands that you may not think you ever get a chance to see kind of thing. Name one that at this year that you really feel that way about.

10:58 Well, I saw them before, but like Death Angel and Napalm Death, you know, or like two classic bands I never seen live before. So that was cool. I'm hoping to catch Napalm Death set after this in the first stage insane. Yeah. Yeah, and. That dude, the energy he has at his age is amazing. So how about you, guys, what's your favorite? I think just the it's the same thing. It's just the community of people just seeing everybody friends, fans, everybody super friendly. It's just a good vibe. Yeah, I think we've gotten to like they hit the nail on the head, like see all of our friends in the industry that we we don't get to see as much as we want to. Plus we've met I mean, just so many more people this way, even just like sitting and catering, like having dinner, like pulling up and meeting these bands, and then it's just fun like running around stage to stage seeing as as much music as you can possibly fit into a weekend is just it's just really cool.

12:05 Yeah, it is, and like, is it true that you know artist catering is over at the hotel across the street likes the chef. Yes, that is true. The one and the one thing I was going to ask you about Dahmer is like, have you have you thought of going and robbing his casket? That would be I don't think I would admit to that. If you could put it on you can put it on. Stage hypothetically stage next year. Yeah, Milwaukee Metal. Hypathetically for legal purposes. Say that again. Yeah, there there you go. So one story, good or bad in your whole musical journey, what's the one that sticks out in your mind most?

13:02 I don't know if it's a story that sticks out the most, but like the most recent thing. I love these festivals because we get to meet everyone. And literally fifteen minutes ago when we were on stage today, I noticed in the crowd a little girl on her dad's shoulders the entire time I saw her, And that little girl just came up to me a few minutes ago and had a little bracelet that she had made me and handed that to me, and that like that. Kind of stuff, just like that sticks with me. We've been fortunate enough to play a lot of festivals the last few years, and there's been a huge change in like adult only festivals, and now they're it's like all ages everywhere, and I love that. It's it's incredible, and that's those are the things that stick out to me.

13:50 I talk about that a lot actually, because like I come from the eighties beginning of all this stuff, you know, like I went to want to possess first shows and that Metallica's first show ever, Slayers first show ever, and stuff like that, and I've met first of all, my dad would. Have never gotten to one of those shows. And I have never gone to see people like Metallica now like in their sixties playing metal. I would have thought it was ridiculous. But now I bring my kids, I bring my grandkids. You look out in the crowd and it's just it feels so good that multiple generations that maybe in other aspects can't hang out together are hanging out at a metal fest.

14:44 Yeah. I mean, that's what it's all about right there. And I attribute to bands like you that you know, are the for lack of a better way of putting newer you know, that are bringing that to forefront. Like my grandson. He want last year unbeknounst to me. He I'm like, what do you want for your birthday? Is like a guitar? Okay, let's go. We went to Guitar Center and he just started playing Green Day like it was nothing. I'm like, where did that come from? And then we're driving the car and I'm playing them like all kinds of extreme metal that I think he would never know, and he knew most of it. And I was like, that's freaking cool, yea, you know. And now he's got a battle vest that I'm like, Wow, you're just like your grandpa because this is my.

15:39 Eighties battle vest. Yeah. Yes, because in those days they didn't have a lot of stuff. They didn't even have a Slayer patch. Then I put that felt on there, and I drew all the drawings on there, some of the old school bands that I showed us to, Like Winston was freaking out from Parkway Drive. He's like, look at the paper patch. That's wild, you know, and that's got a lot of history. It's got blood on it from doing the twenty foot stage dive off a Marshall stack and the crowd moved.

16:21 That's it. Ah, yeah, yeah, it wasn't cool at the time, but it's cool now. Good story. It was kind of cool at the time till fifteen minutes later when my adrenaline went away. Oh yeah. So one last thing I want to say, and I want people to check it out. They need to go to your website because one thing that's really cool about your website a couple things. One is I love the fan page where anybody takes pictures and they send them to you. You'll put them on there, Like that's cool as shit. That's what it's like, you know, to get those loyal fans, because I remember when I was kid, if you could do shit like that, like you were loyal to the band for yeah, okay. And then I think they need to sign up for the newsletter because that's pretty.

17:04 Cool too, Yes, newsletter, get the direct stuff like that. And for any band, go to their website, go to their newsletter because like you're not always going to catch their stuff on social media because all the algorithms, all that weird stuff. Connect with them on their newsletter. And I wanted to add to that too. I just remember when I was young going on to Megadeth's website. They were like the pioneers of like building these cool sites for the fans. They had all this interactive stuff and that's why we did the fan the photo page all that. Like I'm trying to you know, we're trying to keep this like the fans in US as one, you know what I mean, community all of that.

17:44 Yes, that's a big deal. I think it's send yourself apart because like everybody's doing the social media thing, but what you're doing reminds me of back in the eighties when we were doing tape tradame and shit like that, and it really like they do connected to a band. Yeah, totally for sure. Yeah, like you're you're kind of on social media, but you're lost in the c whereas I think you feel more special. Yeah, it's something like that. It's kind of like social media you're kind of fighting for attention where we're not about that. We're just we're just here to like, you know, be be friends and hang out with people and write good music, you know. And yeah, it's uh yeah, catch our Patreon too. We do the same kind of thing. Megan reads like scary stories and like we hang out with Yeah, we'll do live streams and we used to watch VHS movies, uh, you know, live stream movies and stuff like that, all kinds of stuff.

18:40 It's so fun. See I love that like that little girl, she would be totally into like a story, you know. Yeah. I mean so it's cool that you're doing these unique things that nobody else is doing, because that's going to attract your tribe. Yeah for sure. Absolutely. Yeah, and they have to buy your mercher. They can't listen to my show. Because that's the only way you get to the next gig. Yeah, right right, it's it makes a huge difference, you know. No, I think a lot of people don't know. First of all, musicians work way harder than most people. They think it's like, oh, you're living the dream life. It's easy bullshit, you know, you know sense part of it's to dream life. But they don't see what goes into creating the dream life. You don't drop into the dream life, you know, and they don't realize that you don't make shit nowadays from anything but merch. Yeah, you know, it's like it really kind of pisses me off to be honest, Like Spotify what they do, and you know, I talk to other press people and like nowadays, like I have a licensed radio station. I pay royalties, and I know some of these other radio quote unquote radio people that they not license, they don't pay royalties, and I'll say shit to them and they're like, they should just be happy I'm playing our music, And I'm like, do you work for free? No, they shouldn't be just happy you're playing our music. They need to make a living so that they keep making music. Yeah, yeah, right, right, And

20:13 so I want everybody to know that, you know, it's important. Is there any other final words you guys want to touch on that we haven't covered, or ay or anything coming up that you want people to know about. Well, we've got a couple of shows. We've got Toledo Deathfest in Ohio in a couple of weeks, and then we're doing Michigan Metalfest in August, and then we're yeah, we're doing July eighteenth. We're doing a paranormal investigation where we leave Yeah, yeah, we lead it where we have a paranormal team coming, but we're gonna kind of lead the investigations and our fans are welcome to grab a ticket and just hang out. It's just hanging out with us, and you know, maybe we'll see some ghosts or something.

Yeah, going to attract a lot of people, like because me, like, as an example, I'm obsessed with watching all these serial killer shit yah, and it's like it's very interesting, like going into their mind of how they think. And yeah, like I watched all the documentaries about Ed Dean and I mean it's amazing. Almost every serial killer has copied. Him, you know, yeah, right right.
