Hey, this is your boy Esteban from the band Dead by Wednesday. And I'm with my man. Michael Modest and my other man opis the Dopest. Yeah, yeah, nice, and we are here at Milwaukee Metal festure. Oh my god, we are and we're gonna be dead by Wednesday. After this festival. You can say whatever the fuck you want. How's that for an answer?

Be exactly exactly, and you have a lot to live up to, because I was just talking to you about before the interview about the Violin show yesterday, and so I'm expecting you guys to blow that one away. I heard it was amazing, But that's the room to play. It's the bar stage. But it gets crazy, gets packed, and you know, we're really stoked about about it. We're it's gonna be a great show. We're playing late in the afternoon too. Oh that works even better too, because everybody will be here in that place. I'll be packed because I'll tell you what that room was packed when I was in there. I mean it was like old school CBGB shit wow, so nice, it will definitely be fun. I have to say too that you know, uh, well, hold on, I gotta do something here for a second.

1:44 So problem, Well, you. Tell you guys, tell me how this all came about. I mean, I know, but maybe the listeners don't know how dead by Wednesday? Quick union break? Do you have to take a union break? But yeah, you can go ahead and explain opus about how DBWQ ANDB. You want to want this short, long story, because well, I was in another band. I was in another band in the nineties that it was doing that did really, really, really well, called Gargantua's Soul, and we had like a lot of major success, both underground and commercial. We played it like Woodstock ninety nine, we were on VH one, we did farm Club and all this other stuff, and so I kind of got grandfathered in. But towards the end of the implosion of Gargantua's Soul, I wanted to go heavier. My roots is thrash, and like, I really really loved metal, and that band was not that.

2:33 Even though it was a great band, it was not that. And so I started, you know, thinking to myself, you know what, screw Democracy. I want to play in a band where it's heavy and we're going to just go, you know, go crazy. And that band, G Soul was all about the voices. You know, each individual, and actually it was great to a certain extent. But what happens is is that too many cooks spoiled the soup, you know what I'm saying. So Democracy is Dead was our first album. Mike Modesk, which has been with me since the beginning of this band we're started, would come to all the G Soul shows and he would come up. We were just talking about this on Talking Metal with Mark Striegel this morning. He would come up to me and he would say, you know, I'm better than your bass player, right, And I'm like, all right, cool, and I would just like kind of kind of, you know, just whatever, didn't really pay too much attention. And then he kept coming to all the shows, just kept saying afterwards, I want to play with you.

3:23 You know, you know I'm better than your your bass player. So finally I was like, well, we're going to start a new project and it's going to be heavy. It's it's gonna be called dead by Wednesday? Do you want? Do you want to try for that? And he came down and it was amazing. You know, actually his skill level was already a way above what we were doing, but he. Wanted to do it, so we did it. And from that point on, it's been like, uh, you know, basically the the you know, the legacy of the band since then. And then we had a bunch of different members changes since then, and but for the last you know, a few years now, this guy came in and pretty much saved the frontman position because we were we were flobbing around with different guys, different jokers, and not that not that I didn't like some of them.

4:08 There was a couple that were really great, like Rob Roy. Was awesome, but there was you know, there's a couple in between that you know, could and my cousins obviously were amazing who started the band with me, My cousins Cheskey Ramos and David. But again, you know, when you have a different singers, it's very difficult to sell the. Band because it has to be the same face, same voice. Finally we have that. We've had that for a while now and I think it's been established, and I think it's it's going to be even more established moving forward, especially since we just dropped a new song that's doing great Flesh and stuff like that. By the way, I want to say something about Flesh because I bought a shirt yesterday to wear two shirts, actually three shirts. I saw two of them at damer on It, one at at Guying on It. So I'm like, well, that's perfect for this interview because like, you're in the right place to be playing Flesh.

5:02 It's the Ambassador Hotel. Yeah, there it is. I didn't think about that. Wow, you're right right. I like the minute I started listening to that song, I was like, fuck, that's gonna be great at Milwaukee Metal Fest. Man. And there's so many different ideas and and and like concepts that you can get from it yourself personally, like he I know he wrote it for a certain thing, but like it means something different to everybody, Like it means something different to me because of my last experience for last year that I've had. It means something different to someone else the other day said something that they thought it was about. Something else, and when they when when they when they ask about it, it's really about your own you know, opinion of when you hear it, what you what you think.

5:46 But it is written about something. That's the key to a good song. By the way, if everybody can put their own meaning to it, that's a good song. Well, Freddie Mercury said, like meaning is in the listener, you know what I mean? So yeah, how else what it means for you? Well, I mean it was originally written like in order like for you it was. It's literally a dialogue within yourself. It's a battle. It's a two versions of yourself, and you're splitting away the negative part of yourself and you're trying to go with the more positive self, but the temptations of the negative self are always there in front of you, and it always reminds you of why you are trying to break away from the old self, of like being reckless and things like that. Only from like only personal experiences with people and such a round. So that that's metaphorically, that's kind of in literally is what I wrote it for. But it's open for everybody.

6:41 And I actually I don't contribute to the vocals, but I have I'm very fortunate to be the usually me and Dave the first person to hear it just like the audience, just like everyone else, and then I can offer my input, critique or not, you know. So it's what I kind of I feel like. I put on the listener hat and I listened to the foundations of it. I was like, yeah, either that sounds cool or this sounds cool. What does this mean? You know? And then it's shaped and yeah, just more from there and then everybody's got their own interpretation of it. So and that's the best part about it.

7:23 Well, because it sounds like to me like you want to kill a motherfucker. Well that I. Don't know if I want to sign off on that. Look, it sounded to me like dahmer okay, So that that's where I went with it. And we're looking at the hotel right now. That how that's freaking weird, Like people. That come to his festival have a photographer fan, that's where he stays. Fuck that. I'm not staying there. I don't want to. I don't want to stay where every serial killer has ever been. I've not been in there, and now I have to. Now I have to go in there. The lobby. The lobby is very interesting. It's just gotta it feels like you're in the sixties or the seventies.

8:05 It's just got a thrown back era type but a creepy vibe to me. Yeah, and that's just the lobby. Well, I'll definitely have to go in there for sure, because I have to like experience it. Now. I gotta say, one of the things I liked about what you said and you said is I'm also a moivational speaker, and so when we talked about you, that is like my mantra from one of my favorite books by ag Mandino, persist until you succeed. And you did that, brother, because you just kept you were so persistent. It was annoying that you got the gig. I'm feeling a little down. Can you give me a little inspirational pep talk real quick? You're gonna fucking kick ass here at Milwaukee Metal Fest.

8:47 That's that's what's. Going down, perfect, and you're gonna and listen, I think you're gonna be the best band performing at this festival ever, ever, since nineteen eighty ever. That's a huge statement, right right, And that you know what you were talking about is so true, Like it's so much easier to be negative. It's so it's work to be positive, you know. And so yeah, you do battle, even if you're the most positive person, you battle that negativity every single day. And it's all how you look at things. It's funny because like my youngest daughter, she might get mad that I said this, but she she said something. I was telling some story from childhood, and she's like, Dad, you need to go get therapy for that trauma. I'm like, trauma, I wear it like a badge of honor. I don't look at as trauma. That shit made me who I am today. And it's like you look at people that don't have any if we were used word trauma, they can't handle shit, you know, like they can't handle anything.

9:56 So yes, it's a constant battle and I love that. That's what it's all about. And it's not about Jeffrey Dahmer. So now tell us one story, good or bad. You might all have a different one. In this musical journey that you guys have done together so far, we've. Hitchhiked in Italy. That was exactly where I was gonna go. Oh my god, that is nice to. Me. And Dave Sharp walked over the border from Mexico to the US, off of a cruise ship to get to a tour with these guys. And we took and we actually and we got off in Encino and and Sino Port.

10:48 The port we had to pay off the. Mexican government, and then me and Dave had to take a Mexican uber to the border and then we walked over Lilia. First time. I gotta say, I walked over the mex border. It was pretty amazing and I saw how it works and everything, and I walked through into the US side and I kissed the ground A se who they got there. Yeah, So yeah, I know that it's been a crazy story. Its one of many. That's totally and I know that feeling too, because when I was a teenager and I had my license at sixteen, me and my friends used to drive from La down to the border park and walk over. You didn't need passports or anything at that time. You just did it.

11:28 And they almost didn't let me back in because they thought I was a Mexican trying to get back into the US. I'm like, I don't. I didn't need a I didn't. Have a path for I was sixteen sixteen with long hair. I guess because I had like the little teenage mustache wearing a leather jacket being a punk, you know. But yeah, we talked about that. It's funny what I thought about when you were talking about the stupid shit we do in the past. I was in that moment last night at that Violin show because I sent. A video to that same daughter. I sent the video my daughter of all the.

12:08 Stage divers, and she immediately Texas back is, oh, so that's how you knocked out all your front teeth, right, And I'm like, yes, except I climbed up a Marshall stack and swanda from twenty feet high and the crowd moved while I was in mid air. That was at the country club in Mesita. It's actually like an infamous La metal thing. So say that again. Oh yeah, give him the. Mic Rosita's mentioned in the Karate Kid. Look at that, and the country club was iconic. That's right, country club. There you go, there it is.

12:51 It wasn't like your grandparents country club. I can tell you that. So if you were to tell. The audience one thing about your band to describe your band, do not use a genre, because I fucking don't like that whole boxing and an artist, what would you say. Well, you can't say it because it's like, I don't know what it is. Well, pure cocketballs gonna go very big premise. Nice, and that might be the best description ever right there. I would probably say a tsunami from an eleven point seven magnitude earthquake.

13:40 Nice and that, And that's what's gonna be like in your pit here at Milwaukee Web Metalfest. That's what it's gonna be like. So, so, tell us more about the new album. It's drop in like two thousand began twenty twenty seven, right. Sorry, yeah, I'll go late twenty twenty six. All right, Well more to follow on that one. See, there's that motivational stuff again. Everybody else is saying twenty seven. He's like, no, we're gonna make this happen in twenty twenty six.

14:21 We'll get it. We'll get in where we can fit in. There you go, But yeah, go ahead and tell us what you're gonna say about the album, Like it's an EP, tell us more. Is it gonna be more of flesh or is it it's gonna be. Like i'd say it's it's gonna be it's gonna be more in that direction, it's gonna be that direction more of dBW. I think we've actually like finally come together as like a real gel and we just came out of the shoots this time and just did our own thing. We didn't care about what was happening happening socially, like what was it fad at the time or whatever. We just threw this together and it was like this rocks, you know what I mean. And it was from everybody's like straightcore, and especially like when these guys started, when these guys did in the studio, it was like they all did it together. It was like one of the like old school style recordings. Like I wasn't there because I did vocals afterwards, but all these guys were in the studio like together recording. It wasn't like first drums, then guitar, then bass, you know what I mean. It was like everybody was in the room. Everybody was recording at the same time. So it was the vibe that so like what you guys hear in that track is them in the room. And that's what's so fucking sick about it.

15:42 I love it and you're you know, your producer said, you guys are like some of the hardest working dudes in the music industry. So that's that's that's pretty hot. That's pretty high props right there. Yeah, especially coming from Ricky, he's you know, he's pretty established. I can tell you why Ricky said that, because Ricky actually did one of his very first US tours with us and filled in for Mikey and he went and when I tell you it was hardcore, it was we were in a mini van and we basically drove ourselves and it was like it was a huge tours, like a month long every night with flotsam and jetsam. And that was his first experience in America, was jamming with us and doing it and doing a tour. From there, he got you know, he got Butcher Babies, fear Factories, He's uh, he's producing a Grammy nominated album for a five fingure, death Punch or live. I think it was a live album or the Greatest Hits or something like that.

16:41 I forgot what it was. But and then now you know, he's he hooked us up, so he knows firsthand how much hard I know, how hard we work and how hard we have worked in the past, and the grind. You know, if anyone knows he does. And there it is, and butcher Babies have a new song coming out too, or that just came out. So my last thing is I want you to take my eighties battle vest and pick what band you would want to tour with. Oh that's a great, that's a that's very cool. So I drew all that on there as you can. It does have when it does have the blood. Oh that's cool. It it does have the blood from when I knocked my teeth out on there. Yeah, that that would be a good tour. I was at their first show ever. Slayer didn't even have patches at that time, so I went out and got that felt and uh ironed it on and I was in LA and people thought I was a gang banger and that was my gang name.

17:50 I mean, on this vest, I would probably have to say Exodus personally. Nice. I'm holding the mic while Michael examines the uh, and that's what I could see as I was flipping it around, and notice that is Oh I didn't even see suicidal tendencies there. So it could be a three. He could be suicidal tendencies for sure. Those guys fucking rock yeah right. There, all right there you go, so you'll just have like you guys, Anthrax, Exodus and Suicidal that's the tour and Metallica that's the tour. Okay, I'm putting this out there.

Well, you know I'm doing I'm doing a festival Rock Klahoma on Labor Day weekend, Slayers headlining and Marris Jackson is performing there. Right, that's cool as shit. 19:11 I was at the time drumming for Kromags, right, and they do like really they do really crazy like epic festivals in Europe or like it could be any style of music back to back, and we played right after the Village People. It was amazing. That is not even kidding. That's fucking cool. That was amazing. That's the way it should be, all right, So I'm sorry, that's all right.
