This is the pipe Man here on the Adventures pipe
4
00:00:25.120 --> 00:00:26.519
Man W four c Y Radio.
5
00:00:26.559 --> 00:00:30.679
And I'm here with chan Kinchla guitar player for Blues Traveler.
6
00:00:30.960 --> 00:00:32.079
Here with the pipe Man.
7
00:00:32.600 --> 00:00:32.880
Yes.
8
00:00:33.200 --> 00:00:35.759
Here you should see the guns. You should see the
9
00:00:35.799 --> 00:00:36.719
pipes on this guy.
10
00:00:38.119 --> 00:00:38.679
I love it.
11
00:00:38.840 --> 00:00:41.719
I'm here. I'm testifying the pipes are massive.
12
00:00:42.320 --> 00:00:44.200
Oh yeah, wow, they gotta be right.
13
00:00:44.439 --> 00:00:47.159
Yeah, that's because I gotta be out there in that
14
00:00:47.280 --> 00:00:50.799
crowd tonight for your set and fight my way to
15
00:00:50.840 --> 00:00:51.320
the front.
16
00:00:51.479 --> 00:00:53.600
Yeah. It's going to be a zoo and we're looking
17
00:00:53.640 --> 00:00:54.200
forward to it.
18
00:00:55.119 --> 00:00:59.759
And so you guys are on tour with other bands
19
00:00:59.759 --> 00:01:03.520
playing here today, Spin Doctors and Jim Blossoms.
20
00:01:04.000 --> 00:01:06.040
It's kind of been like a mini festival for us
21
00:01:06.040 --> 00:01:08.400
all summer. We've been out. What's up?
22
00:01:09.200 --> 00:01:09.920
Just bowl away?
23
00:01:10.480 --> 00:01:13.079
Oh, don't blast into it as you're so loud. Yeah,
24
00:01:13.079 --> 00:01:15.079
I am loud. Not the first person to tell me
25
00:01:15.120 --> 00:01:18.719
that we've been. It's kind of a mini a little
26
00:01:18.760 --> 00:01:22.079
mini festival because we've been out all summer. Great, just
27
00:01:22.159 --> 00:01:25.239
crushing it, having a blast, and it's a big, wide
28
00:01:25.599 --> 00:01:30.040
variation of crowds. The bands are all totally different, but
29
00:01:30.079 --> 00:01:34.560
we're still from that heartland of the nineties singers songwriter
30
00:01:34.760 --> 00:01:38.280
world from a bygone era, so it's kind of fun.
31
00:01:38.480 --> 00:01:40.519
And all of the bands have been playing the whole time,
32
00:01:40.959 --> 00:01:42.959
so we're all still really good live. None of these
33
00:01:42.959 --> 00:01:43.680
bands went away.
34
00:01:43.799 --> 00:01:46.560
Oh yeah, you're all badass live like, and that's key
35
00:01:46.599 --> 00:01:48.920
to me. It's great if you can be great on
36
00:01:48.959 --> 00:01:52.560
the album, but live it is just a whole nother vibe.
37
00:01:52.799 --> 00:01:54.680
There's something about it. If you've been playing for thirty
38
00:01:54.719 --> 00:01:57.640
years together, you kind of you just there's a certain
39
00:01:57.680 --> 00:02:00.680
osmosis that happens that you can't really recreate. And so
40
00:02:00.719 --> 00:02:02.439
we've been having a blast and it's cool that we
41
00:02:02.439 --> 00:02:03.959
get to take it to Bourbon and beyond is our
42
00:02:04.000 --> 00:02:06.799
own little mini festival within festival.
43
00:02:06.400 --> 00:02:08.120
I know, And so I have a question.
44
00:02:08.199 --> 00:02:11.919
Then you guys did a cover of a song, a
45
00:02:12.000 --> 00:02:15.879
collab all three of you by Funny. My name's Dean,
46
00:02:16.479 --> 00:02:20.039
so it's covering our Dean Taylor. Yeah, And are you
47
00:02:20.039 --> 00:02:21.280
gonna play it here together?
48
00:02:21.599 --> 00:02:24.039
I don't think we are. We've actually we played that
49
00:02:24.319 --> 00:02:27.599
early part of the summer, and then that was championed
50
00:02:27.599 --> 00:02:31.719
by Robin from the Jim Blossoms, Robin Wilson. Lately we've
51
00:02:31.719 --> 00:02:34.639
been playing rocket Man by Elton John is our collab
52
00:02:34.840 --> 00:02:37.280
fun song. Oh you know, we're trying all kinds of
53
00:02:37.280 --> 00:02:40.439
different stuff. We've been out almost three months, so there's
54
00:02:40.479 --> 00:02:42.520
been a lot of we've been through it. We've been
55
00:02:42.560 --> 00:02:45.599
through a lot of things together us, the Spin Doctors
56
00:02:45.599 --> 00:02:47.120
and the Jim Blossoms.
57
00:02:46.759 --> 00:02:49.960
And so I have actually requests from listeners.
58
00:02:50.000 --> 00:02:51.199
Oh I can't, let's hear it.
59
00:02:51.319 --> 00:02:52.000
So okay.
60
00:02:52.159 --> 00:02:56.120
First of all, one request comes from Beyond this World,
61
00:02:56.560 --> 00:02:59.439
my best bro life since thirteen that we've gone to
62
00:02:59.479 --> 00:03:02.599
your show together, passed away a couple of years ago.
63
00:03:02.719 --> 00:03:07.560
Oh my condolences and his favorite show, his favorite song
64
00:03:07.639 --> 00:03:10.319
he always wanted to hear that. You guys, if ever
65
00:03:10.439 --> 00:03:13.479
played rarely play is Bigira.
66
00:03:14.159 --> 00:03:16.719
Well, we've been talking about bringing that back. It's a
67
00:03:16.759 --> 00:03:19.400
lot of words, I know, right, So it's like a
68
00:03:19.439 --> 00:03:22.439
whole story. John never felt never met a word. If
69
00:03:22.439 --> 00:03:25.120
there's something he could say in ten words, he did
70
00:03:25.159 --> 00:03:27.879
it in a hundred. So it's great. We do love
71
00:03:27.919 --> 00:03:29.879
the song and we've talked tout bringing it back. So
72
00:03:29.919 --> 00:03:31.919
we just got to get John to re memorize the
73
00:03:31.960 --> 00:03:33.879
words and we're on track all right.
74
00:03:33.759 --> 00:03:36.639
So the other ones that are from actual listeners in
75
00:03:36.680 --> 00:03:37.759
this world right on?
76
00:03:37.879 --> 00:03:40.759
Okay, Our Devil that went Down to Georgia.
77
00:03:40.800 --> 00:03:42.719
We play that fairly often because it's fun. As a
78
00:03:42.719 --> 00:03:44.719
matter of fact, we played Atlanta last night and of
79
00:03:44.759 --> 00:03:47.439
course played Devil Went Down to Georgia. But that's a
80
00:03:47.560 --> 00:03:51.319
fairly common rotation because it's just such a kick ass number.
81
00:03:51.599 --> 00:03:54.240
And then how about Brother John, that one.
82
00:03:54.120 --> 00:03:55.840
We play once in a while. We haven't been playing
83
00:03:55.840 --> 00:03:59.120
it this summer. I think we played it once. We
84
00:03:59.120 --> 00:04:01.199
play that more often we're on our own, like theater
85
00:04:01.520 --> 00:04:04.680
tours in the fall, so that'll be out this year.
86
00:04:04.719 --> 00:04:06.280
We'll play it again a few times. I'm sure.
87
00:04:06.400 --> 00:04:08.439
Is there any song you plan on playing tonight that
88
00:04:08.479 --> 00:04:09.800
you haven't played in like forever.
89
00:04:10.400 --> 00:04:12.919
Well, as I said, we've been out for three months now,
90
00:04:13.000 --> 00:04:16.439
so we're probably just gonna bring the hits, have some
91
00:04:16.560 --> 00:04:19.000
fun and put a fork in it and fly home
92
00:04:19.079 --> 00:04:21.519
right nearly. This will be our celebration gig on wrapping
93
00:04:21.519 --> 00:04:23.199
it up. It start. That's cool for the end of
94
00:04:23.240 --> 00:04:26.120
the tour, end of a great summer. But we're all
95
00:04:26.160 --> 00:04:26.800
pretty cooked.
96
00:04:27.120 --> 00:04:29.800
I'm sure you are. But I still love I love
97
00:04:29.879 --> 00:04:31.519
being on the last show at the tour.
98
00:04:31.600 --> 00:04:33.839
Yeah, it's a fun vibe because everyone's it's.
99
00:04:33.680 --> 00:04:35.639
Like, you give it a you're all as, you have
100
00:04:35.800 --> 00:04:36.800
no gas left.
101
00:04:36.839 --> 00:04:39.959
I'm surprisingly frisky, but I know when I see that couch,
102
00:04:40.279 --> 00:04:42.519
there's gonna be a nice face plant on the way
103
00:04:42.759 --> 00:04:44.120
nice and everyone can f off.
104
00:04:45.680 --> 00:04:48.639
I love it. I love it. One story, good or bad.
105
00:04:48.920 --> 00:04:51.319
When you're like eighty years old, you're gonna talk about
106
00:04:51.439 --> 00:04:52.720
this whole musical journey.
107
00:04:52.720 --> 00:04:53.639
What would be crazy?
108
00:04:54.079 --> 00:04:56.240
I mean, you know, we were on tour opening up
109
00:04:56.279 --> 00:05:00.399
for the Allman Brothers back in nineteen ninety and Greg
110
00:05:00.519 --> 00:05:02.519
was having all this problem with the Almend Brothers. God
111
00:05:02.879 --> 00:05:07.079
rest his soul. He Domald Brothers were constantly bickering. They
112
00:05:07.079 --> 00:05:11.240
had a contentious but amazing relationship, and musically there couldn't
113
00:05:11.240 --> 00:05:13.319
beat him. One time, we were partying in the bar
114
00:05:13.399 --> 00:05:16.839
at like two am and Greg Almond comes in and
115
00:05:16.920 --> 00:05:19.879
he had played on Travelers and Thieves and we were
116
00:05:19.879 --> 00:05:21.920
all banged up part doing shots with Greg Almond at
117
00:05:21.959 --> 00:05:24.519
the bar. Next thing, he's saying he wants to join
118
00:05:24.560 --> 00:05:29.360
our band, and we're just kids, so we're like, I
119
00:05:29.439 --> 00:05:31.839
don't know, and we didn't want to like piss off
120
00:05:31.879 --> 00:05:35.040
the Almond Brothers. But at the same time, you're just
121
00:05:35.079 --> 00:05:37.160
a twenty year old kidding Greg Almonds asking to join
122
00:05:37.199 --> 00:05:39.879
your band, and he was. He's a pretty intimidating guy,
123
00:05:40.160 --> 00:05:42.959
and he was pretty serious about it, at least drunk
124
00:05:43.000 --> 00:05:46.439
at the bar. So for a brief moment, Greg Almend
125
00:05:46.519 --> 00:05:49.600
was in Blues Traveler, You're heard it here first, because
126
00:05:49.600 --> 00:05:51.879
I don't think we said no.
127
00:05:51.879 --> 00:05:54.879
Now, do you know we're lucky you're playing today because
128
00:05:54.920 --> 00:05:56.399
you know what happened last night?
129
00:05:56.879 --> 00:05:58.560
No, sir, I'm gonna show you.
130
00:05:58.639 --> 00:06:01.399
We were rocking in Atlanta night, all right, great crowd
131
00:06:01.399 --> 00:06:01.879
in Atlanta.
132
00:06:02.199 --> 00:06:03.319
This was last night.
133
00:06:03.360 --> 00:06:05.240
Now, if you look out there when you're oh yeah,
134
00:06:05.360 --> 00:06:08.600
and you'll see it's that Ferris wheel right here.
135
00:06:09.560 --> 00:06:11.759
Did they have to cancel some Uh No, it.
136
00:06:11.639 --> 00:06:14.839
Happened at two am, so perfect. It happened through tonight.
137
00:06:14.839 --> 00:06:17.279
We were code read through tonight and we'll.
138
00:06:17.120 --> 00:06:19.480
Yeah, our crew had to hold off this morning loading
139
00:06:19.480 --> 00:06:20.519
in because of some lightning.
140
00:06:20.639 --> 00:06:20.839
Yeah.
141
00:06:20.920 --> 00:06:23.360
I was sitting on the bus watching it all unfold.
142
00:06:24.360 --> 00:06:24.839
Was it fun?
143
00:06:25.199 --> 00:06:25.480
Yeah?
144
00:06:25.720 --> 00:06:27.720
Always, I mean it's a blast to see that shit.
145
00:06:27.920 --> 00:06:30.439
I live in South Florida, so I see the most
146
00:06:30.480 --> 00:06:31.879
wicked lightning yeah, I.
147
00:06:31.839 --> 00:06:33.319
Lived down there for a while. I lived down in
148
00:06:33.319 --> 00:06:36.120
South Beach. Oh really years ago? Mid nineties.
149
00:06:36.439 --> 00:06:37.800
Oh well, that's when it was fun.
150
00:06:37.920 --> 00:06:38.279
It was.
151
00:06:38.360 --> 00:06:39.959
It's a lot more fun then than now.
152
00:06:40.199 --> 00:06:42.600
Yeah, it's a little transient, but back to mid nineties
153
00:06:42.639 --> 00:06:44.600
it was still like it was still kind of ghetto.
154
00:06:44.759 --> 00:06:49.560
Oh yeah, and party town. Yeahn So music wasn't in
155
00:06:49.600 --> 00:06:51.800
your life now? What's your passion.
156
00:06:52.240 --> 00:06:54.360
As a kid, I loved reading and writing. I always
157
00:06:54.360 --> 00:06:56.360
thought maybe I could be like a writer. But I'm
158
00:06:56.399 --> 00:07:00.480
glad I chose rock and roll, and then I maybe
159
00:07:00.680 --> 00:07:02.399
I could have been a barista.
160
00:07:02.839 --> 00:07:05.360
Nice, a blues barista.
161
00:07:05.639 --> 00:07:09.639
Yeah, well, something creative. I'd like to think.
162
00:07:09.879 --> 00:07:12.360
You guys are badass. I'm looking forward to your set.
163
00:07:12.399 --> 00:07:15.079
Thanks somewhere, and I hope to see a lot more
164
00:07:15.079 --> 00:07:17.040
of you guys in the future, cuz.
165
00:07:16.759 --> 00:07:20.000
We'll keep coming back. We keep coming back. Thirty five,
166
00:07:20.720 --> 00:07:22.639
nineteen eighty seven, thirty eight years.
167
00:07:23.000 --> 00:07:23.959
Can you believe that?
168
00:07:24.279 --> 00:07:26.800
No? And yes, I know, it's been fun. The whole
169
00:07:26.800 --> 00:07:27.480
time has been fun.
170
00:07:27.480 --> 00:07:29.079
Honestly, Well it's fun for me too.
171
00:07:29.160 --> 00:07:31.480
