I'm back from UK, Europe and Morocco and I have a little break on the Pipe Man radio tour before I had the incarceration in next week, one of my favorite festivals to do because it's at the Shawshank Prison. But we had the most phenomenal thing happen over the weekend, very emotional, and we're going to talk about it. And it's about that guy behind me, you know, over there over there, that guy Ozzy, Ozzy and Black Sabbath. Ozzy's the reason I'm here. Ozzy is the reason most of us are here. And uh man, what a weekend we're going to talk about, but because we went back to the beginning, and we're going to talk about what happened that back to the beginning, and then we're going to go back to my beginning when I first knew about Sabbath and Ozzie and the journey ever since. But first, let's bring on our pipe nuts.

How much do you know about Black Sabbath, and how much do you know about Back to the Beginning. I know very little about Ozzie other than he's absolutely gorgeous and very entertaining. I know nothing about Black Sabbath.

I mean, it's even my brother, who wouldn't be in the know of anything I didn't do with Ozzy, knew about it because it's all over the news. Oh my god. And when's the last time you saw Ozzy that you're talking about how hot he is? First of all, Sharon'll kick your ass. Second of all, he's almost eighty now is that your type now?

How much do you know about Ozzie Black Sabbath and back to the beginning one was probably smarter than you, Rebel, and he probably while I was asking you to question, he was probably googling all this stuff so he could have a good an sir. Well, I'm going to the honest path on this one and say, I don't know anything about Ozzie Black Sabbath, but I have heard of Back to the future. I don't know if that's any relation.

I don't understand, especially a radio station where uh we feature bands like this, Like, I don't know, that's just really weird. Okay, all right, We're gonna come back to that in a minute, and I'm going to do some trivia questions with you guys, and that'll really determine how much you know. We already did one and Rebels failed miserably. But okay, So but first I want to talk about what happened before the beginning, okay, and that was the pipe man went on the other side of pond to go do Download festival in the UK and we didn't have the experience Glastonbury did. Do you guys know what happened at Glastonbury Festival?

What kind of chipmunk is that? That's like a chipmunk that's on LSD or something? I don't know, Like, is your chipmunk on drugs? I know chipmunk is very deep.

Download Festival. We'll start with freaking amazing. I love that festival. I love the people that run it. I think it's one of the greatest run greatest family orrington. And when I say family Orienton, I mean the metal and rock family. I don't mean your chipmunk family. That's what I'm not. And it was just it was amazing. I love the people there that I work with too, like the media people.

8:39 They're so great, they're so cool, they're so helpful, they're so nice and so trustworthy. Big deal. And some of them speak English, others speak Birmingham, okay, Like, because it depends on what party the UK you're from whether you can understand the English or not. And I had somebody, okay, I'm saying Birmingham because that's where Sabbath got it start. I should have asked that as a trivia question, you guys, but you would add no clue of how to put those two things together. Okay, But that was the whole thing, is back to beginning, to the beginning, that's where they started. They were all these kids in this working class town Birmingham.

9:22 And actually heavy metal started from Black Sabbath because the guitarists of Black Sabbath, Tony Iomi he basically he had an accident at his work where part of his fingers went bye bye. I'm putting that the nice way. And he was a guitarist and like, oh, some people be like, oh no, I'm gonna do oh my career is overall. I'm gonna be doing this the rest of my life. No, he founded heavy metal over that incident because he had to change the guitar so he could play it. And that's where we got the heavy metal sound.

10:11 Awesome. So and that all started in Birmingham. But have you ever heard Ozzie speak? A lot of times? Can you understand what he's saying? Not always? Yeah, most people can't. And that's because he's from Birmingham. And like, I have friends of mine from the UK that first before I ever went there for the first time, they're like, hey, when you fly in there, you're not going to understand a word anybody's saying that. I'm thinking myself, Come on, they're speaking English. Well, no, because the way Ozzie sounds, that's how they sound like. You'll talk to that and they you talk to him and it's like them.

11:02 So it's kind of like playing backwards. Kind of kind of. Now here's a funny story, and it comes up in my interviews when I do interviews in the UK or on my download interviews. I flew in there and people were talking to me, like them like, what did you say?

11:44 I really had no clue what they said. It's for real. But here's the funny story. Thing two. Thing two had a very proper queen's English way of speaking. She came here from the UK, and I always talk about how people sometimes people come from the UK, from certain areas of the UK and they act like they're a royal when they come over to America, and they're the ones with their noses down on Americans because most of all the cool British people I know, they love America. Okay, maybe not so much right now, but usually but anyway, uh, you know. And but so she had that attitude like I'm English, I'm better than you, and acted like a royal.

12:35 And I found out where she was from, and when I tell English people, they laugh, so every single one of them, because she's from Newcastle, and I didn't know what that meant. But Newcastle is like real serious working class, not royal class for sure, and they have a certain way of speaking. They call them Jordani's okay, and they're like, you can tell her her Jordi accent, Like, no, she sounded like that she's speaking of Queen's proper English. She must have like taken a class or something, because apparently their accent is also very Sometimes you don't understand it, or they they talk like it's almost like they talk like they're from if they were from Brooklyn here. So that's my best explanation.

13:25 Are we talking like Bridgings in or. We're talking about Bedford Stuyvesant or you know someplace where they're like, my, you now, this is what's gonna happen. Okay. So anyway, uh so that was Download Festival badass. And then so I had three days off between Download Festival and Hellfest and download festivals in North of England. Healfest is you know down in wait and call it France. And I don't know why I said what you can call it, but it's a good filler word. You know, it's better than it's better than uh or you just say what, but you don't say the whole candy bar, the handybar, the handy bar, the candy bar is what you might call it. This is you don't say the whole thing. You kind of like abbreviate it like what you might call it, and said what you might call it.

14:30 You see what See, she can't tell the difference because she's from Louisiana and that's how they speak anyway, Like they don't speak English properly anyway, so she doesn't know the difference. Okay. But so anyway, I could have stayed in England, I could have stayed, gone straight to France and hung out there ahead of time, but not the pipe Man. Because the pipe Man decided it's so easy to travel over there, I hopped on like a seventy dollars flight to another continent. Okay. So my three days off I spent in Marrakesh, Morocco, which is in Africa. It's not in euro events, not in the UK. Okay, And I must say too, it is kind of scary out there sometimes because of my heritage, you have to be careful where you go, and because of my job, you got to be careful where you go. So I get to Morocco for oh well, so we leave download festival and drive straight down three hours to London, or two hours at that point to London airport and then take off to Morocco. Like we had a very small window there was sleep was not part of that window. Okay.

15:50 It was a very early flight and download ended very late. So anyway, we get we land in Morocco and I say, well, I'm not going to say I'm Jewish to anybody here, and I'm not going to say I'm media to anybody here. And sure enough, okay, they have a trap in the airport there, okay, And there's this big sign at customs with a QR code. So as a pipe man, do let me see what this QR code's all about. And I pull out my phone and I'm putting a c oh. They didn't like that, like why put something like that in customs if you they don't want you to pull your phone out and open your camera. So they called me a side and they they they're they're looking through all my pictures. Jokes on them. There were probably about five thousand pictures, okay, And so they had to look through all my pictures.

16:54 Okay, why are looking through your pictures? Because and they kept saying to me, they kept saying to me in Arabic, they were like, uh, they kept saying to me. The pictures show us the picture. They thought I took a picture, you know, And you can't do that in any customs anywhere. You're not supposed to even have your phone out by fear. If they have a QR code, it's okay. And so yeah, and you don't want to tell people in certain places like that that your media either, okay. So I think I think what they were trying to look for is they were trying to find the elusive pipemin pipe pic.

17:38 Yeah, yeah, I think it. It might have been. It might have been. I think they thought I was a double agent and I was after their job. That's what I think. May And because for quite a while they're let me and I'm trying to tell them what happened, and then they were just just like you would see in a movie. Man, they were freaking out on me. Did they search you? They did not search me, So my whole phone, everything in my phone. And then they asked me, will I do for a living? I told him I'm a chipmunk. You should have told them you were a stripper. No, I told him I was a chipmunk. I told him I was a chipmunk. Had the recording of Royal of Rebels Chipmunk Sound, and I started playing it in my pocket. I did say marketing, though I didn't say anything about radio or streaming TV or podcasting or anything like that. Okay, And so Morocco's kind of cool, not temperature wise, by way, just saying it's a bit hotter than Florida, but it like where you go and stay.

18:55 Cars can't get to because it's the big marketplace. So well, we had to arrange for transportation. Transportation came and picked up and brought to the edge of the marketplace where we met some dude with a wheelbarrow. It's not really a wheelbarrow, you know, it was like a cart and you know, wooden, but it was like a wheelbarrow. And so he puts your luggage into that thing and you walked to wherever you're staying, which they're little alleyways. Okay. I took a video and sent it to somebody and they're like, you look like you're in a movie because I'm in these little alley ways because it's all marketplace.

19:39 The marketplace, people are hoking you. And then there's more recycles and scooters going up and down while a bunch of people are walking so it's like it's the ultimate game of Frogger. I can tell you that, okay, with a real life content that is so and it's usually really active light. And then one night, I don't know, I took a wrong turn in the market because it's like a big maze and I ended up like in this dark area where it was still alleyways but it was all dark and nothing. I'm like, I just did my full on New York walk faster than I normally do, and normally people can't keep up with me. And I was just like, get me eye here and get me to the main thing, you know, And you know you don't want to be a jew lost in Morocco. The pipe man can be lost in Morocco. But anyway, so yeah, Morocco was kind of cool and kind of not. I hated the marketplace type of thing, but I did do a cool thing with quads and camels.

20:48 And h something you need to keep to yourself, really. And dinner and a fire show. So go figure out that puzzle. Okay, was one of the camels I became very good friends with. Actually, I hope that's not in relation to the other stuff you said. Yeah, no, no, no, but yeah, I can't. He was a cool camel. He was like Joe can Okay, there's a trivia question. Do you know who Joe Cammel is? One, let's go you first, because you probably don't. Well, he's not my camel, he's Yo Camel. Yeah it's no, it's Joe Cammel. Yeah, that's Joe Cammel Camel. Yeah, he is the cartoon character that is an advertisements for Camel cigarettes.

21:39 So so. Because they're like, yeah, you get the kids smoking by these cool characters. Now, the only the only camel commercials I remember was hum Day. Okay, so there was that. That's Morocco Lee. Now. Oh, I must say too that I almost didn't make it on the flight to Morocco. And I've never missed a flight ever. But let me tell you it was an adventure. Okay, this dude with two heart attacks being me, what I had to do. I had one hundred pounds of bags that I'm dragging around and in the airport to go to Morocco. Like, there's this train, but it takes you to a whole different part of the airport like a monorail thing, and the only way to get back there it is the only way to get back.

22:33 You smoke, Camel's rebel. I don't smoke, but oddly enough, when you talk about cigarettes, I do have. Yeah, I have somebody that doesn't smoke have cigarettes. Like, what's that makes no sense to me? Yeah, I've never smoked. I didn't even know that was a thing. Wow, you didn't know cigarettes were a thing. I didn't know camel cigarettes were a thing. Yeah, So yeah, what happened was I had to they had to call somebody over to escort me down the ever like, once you go up, you can't go back down, and that is not how gravity works, yeah, and she's yeah, and it's not how sex works either, And so then I wasn't having sex with her for sure. And so then I get down there, I'm like, how long before flight?

23:24 And they're very serious about the flight to Morocco. It's like, if you aren't there by exactly this time, which is not the takeoff done, they closed the gate, no exceptions, And basically it was three minutes from that time. Now here's the thing that it was a fifteen minute walk from where I was, according to this lady. So I took my hundred pounds of bags and ran and had to go down like fly five. I have deep flights of stairs and I was like, fuck it. I didn't even pick up the rollie bags. I just dragged them down the stairs, like I'm surprised that they lasted through this thing. This was OJ Simpson on super steroids. Okay, you know John wouldn't get that, but there used to be Hurts commercials before. You know, OJ killed people that He's running through the airport to get his rental car because he was like one of the greatest running backs ever.

24:31 So yeah, this was like that, but ten times more. And I had a flannel on and it's like ninety five degrees, but I had flannel on because didn't fit my bag. I didn't want to checked bag. I wanted to carry on so like I would win. I had to be in cold weather climates too, so I was wearing that. I was sweating my I literally it was like slow motion. At the end at the gate, She's waving me in and then I'm like running in slow motion and I just like, just like in the Olympics, just like pick a leap over the finish line and I get on the plane and literally it was that close.

25:19 It was literally that I'm not even exaggerating. And after all of that, here's the real question. Does he beat Flying Spirit? Well, it didn't have to do with the airline. It was me, would you rather go through that again or fly Spirit? Oh? You know what, I fly Spirit. I haven't had problems with Spirit, to be honest. Really, no, No, everyone that I've known that has flown Spirit has said that they had at least one problem with it. I've never had a problem with them. I've been lucky. It might be because I never flew him. But no, I'm just kidding. I have flown, but that would be a good reason. Okay, And Rebel just can't stop herself from sucking on things, even just for the show. Okay, don't worry, Rebels.

26:11 That's the only cigarette that. So now we get to hell Fest after Morocco. Hell Fest is one of my favorite festivals on Earth. It's like decorated, so cool. It's like you're in Hell at night. The fire is going everywhere. During the day, it's like hotter than Florida, Like you are seriously in Hell. I was saying that press conference, dripping during the press conference, trying to record this thing. Well, it's burning my eyes because it's so hot. But it is a fun time. Everybody must experience hell Fest at least once, Okay, And so if.

26:57 I want to lose weight, all I have to do is go to hell Fist. Oh yeah for sure, Like you'll walk like eighty eight miles in a weekend. And I was. I was going rogue at Hellfs. Some of the interviews that I got were because I went to see a band and I thought they were great, and I caught them as they're walking off stage. I'm like, hey, let's do an interview. I kid you not, I'm not even kidding you, like, and I'm not disrespectfully you know. It wasn't like I wasn't where I was supposed to be. But I was like, hey, you guys fucking are badass, and I'm here doing media. We should do an interview. And we just like walked, you know, over by the entrance and did it right then and there. It was better than doing it in the prestent because it was hot as hell, because black presstent hot as hell for sure.

You have people that dress up like some of the bands, like especially the Death of Metal and Black Metal people, even the Powermoult. You got the Vikings walking around. You got people dressed up like Rebel and uh, all kinds of stuff like angels amazed what you would see. It's like better than the Renaissance Festival.

In fact, you probably heard one because you got to see one of the press conferences. It was all in French, and we're gonna broadcast it. Okay, let's see the Hispanic probably has better English than you. So one, can you read off as fast as you can the list of artists that played and honored Ozzy Osbourne in Black Sabbath.

It's very sad to me because I have been a fan of Sabbath and Ozzy since seventy seven seventy eight. And basically what happened was my friend had this album. There's two albums. It's funny, there's two albums he showed me that are two became two of my favorite bands, and they're totally different. And they also explained my split person split personality between metal head punk or me and hippie.

No, Metallica didn't even have an album and since nineteen seventy seven or seventy eight, So the first these albums that this friend had were one was one was Black Sabbath and we sold our Souls for rock and Roll and it was it's this double album of like all our best at that time, and I was like, oh my god, this is the best shit ever. And that was my entry into heavy metal. The other album was Skeletons from the Closet the Greatest Hits of the Grateful Dead, and so I became a deadhead after that too. I was both metal head, deadhead punk.

At the record store albums Okay, that's where I yeah, yeah, that's why I used the word album and didn't use the word concert because I meant an album, very good rebel okay. So anyway, yeah, so that was my entry and oh my god, it was the coolest shit ever. And these four guys from Birmingham, okay. So the original lineup has not played for I don't even know how many years now, it's it's a long time, okay. And they got the drummer, who, like Black Sabbath, has played some shows, some reunion shows, but Bill Ward never participated and he's the drummer, the original drummer. So they had all four original members. How many bands that at that have been around as long as that have all their original members. I mean they've been around since nineteen sixty eight.

34:03 It's like to have them all even alive as a miracle. No, seriously, like that long that you're doing this. So that was what was really cool about back to the beginning. It was the reunion, and you know there's people on there saying, oh, blah blah blah blah blah blah blahah. You know, there's always complainers, like somebody would I saw somebody complaining about, Oh, bill Ward could have done a lot better. The dude hasn't done it in forever and he's almost eighty years old. Man, he killed it. He killed it. How many seventy some odd year olds can play the drums man like he killed it? Yeah, maybe it was, Yeah, maybe he isn't way you expected way he was twenty.

34:55 But come on, there's even people that talked shit about Oz and it's like, are you fucking serious? The fact that these people can actually still take the stage and perform awesomely. Us he barely can now, like what he did to do this. This is how dedicated he is to his people, you know, he always says his concerts, I love you all, and he says it like ten times. He freaking means it. It's not even a joke. He so means it. He had to be okay. He has Parkinson's and he's also had multiple back surgeries that leave him not able to walk. Now, this is a guy that ran across the stage jumped, used to pick up Randy Rhoades.

35:39 This dude. They had the classic Prince of Darkness throne and he had them strap him in there tight so that he would stay it. And there were times during the show you could see he wanted to get up, but man, who else would do that? Only the Prince of Darkness? I mean, dude, my hero the get out there at his age with his issues. And he did two sets. He like okay. So there was a bunch of bands that performed and whenever Wan's ready, we'll we'll have him go through that. But they only each of them only played like anywhere from three to five songs, and one of them they all did like a Sabbath cover. So that was really cool. But and then they had to superstar jam that uh Tom Morello put together from Range against the Machine and that was pretty killer too. Brought brought one of his old Ozzie's old guitarist to play.

36:38 Jaki Lee was playing in this super jam, and you know, all kinds of different people, but which one will list off and and then I'll explain who's who if I need to. But I mean he did two full sets like he did four or five songs each for Sabbath and Ozzie in a row, like for somebody at Parkinson's who has those back issues. And he also he takes pain meds to like be able to live. He had his doctors cut him off all pain meds to do this show. Well, don't you remember when we went to a shoeerhero Do you remember when he took the stage so sick he could barely.

37:25 Walk at lettered in life? Yeah? Yeah, but he did it. I mean that's dedication. That man is awesome. He loves his fans and like, okay, so I have to tell you something. I just have to break it out right now. The most epic moment besides Ozzy and Sabbath playing was young Blood. Now young Blood plays out a bunch of Danny Wimmer festivals. He's a really cool dude too. I'm in person, and Ozzy took a loving to this kid. Okay, and the talk is is that Ozzie, this kid reminds him of himself when he was younger, so he like took him under his wing. He sang one of the Sabbath songs changes first of all, brilliant.

38:22 They picked that song and oh my god, everybody I know said they were blown away by it. I was blown away. He he was the highlighted event besides Sabbath and Azsie Like. I mean, he had that whole place going and he did the best performance of a cover. I saw the whole like day and night. It was amazing. I have to go. You have to go check it out because this kid did it so honored to be there that he did everything he could to make Papa Ozzie proud, and Ozzie does treat him like another one of his kids. Speaking of kids, trivia question, what happened to Kelly Osbourne at back to the beginning?

I'm getting my husband and I'm like, oh shit, we're busted. The husband comes saying, calls us up to the house, and he brings us into this room that I think was attached to a garage or something. Turns out was his studio.

And then he gives me this cassette tape because it was wall of wall cassette tapes in his studio.
