Australian nu-metal quartet Headwreck made a massive splash at the Download Festival on Friday, June 12. They delivered a highly praised, "earth-shaking" set on the Dogtooth Stage that drew a great turnout despite their massive 38-hour journey to get to Castle Donington.
Here are the details from their performance:

  • Set Time: 1:00 PM on Friday.
  • Stage: Dogtooth Stage.
  • Reaction: Reviewers praised their steamroller of a riff and heavy sound, solidifying a strong start to the festival.

00:00:04.639 --> 00:00:07.839
Hi, you love unto censure.

2
00:00:09.000 --> 00:00:20.760
Wow for you you This is the pipemin here on

3
00:00:20.839 --> 00:00:22.920
the Adventures pipe Man W four C Y Radio, and

4
00:00:23.000 --> 00:00:23.440
I'm here.

5
00:00:23.359 --> 00:00:27.600
With Conna and Dane from head Wreck head Wreck.

6
00:00:27.519 --> 00:00:28.800
Nice you know.

7
00:00:28.960 --> 00:00:31.440
Speaking of head wreck, I have my battle vest here

8
00:00:31.559 --> 00:00:35.799
has blood on it from a twenty foot stage dive

9
00:00:35.920 --> 00:00:37.359
where I knocked out my teeth.

10
00:00:37.479 --> 00:00:39.119
So that was pretty much a head wreck.

11
00:00:39.000 --> 00:00:41.039
Right, yea, that very much your head wolves wrecked.

12
00:00:41.359 --> 00:00:45.079
I could be like your mascot, put you on a

13
00:00:45.119 --> 00:00:47.520
shut and shit, I know right, you know, with the

14
00:00:47.640 --> 00:00:53.439
blood coming down my head and stuff metal brutle meadow.

15
00:00:53.200 --> 00:00:57.399
Up your fucking face, metow up your fucking head like.

16
00:00:57.520 --> 00:00:58.640
A bous.

17
00:01:00.280 --> 00:01:04.799
So how does head wreck wreck? Anyway? How did you

18
00:01:04.840 --> 00:01:05.319
get together?

19
00:01:06.000 --> 00:01:08.599
So? Ben started with me and Jamo, the guitarists.

20
00:01:09.359 --> 00:01:13.000
We pretty much started with its another couple members, and

21
00:01:13.079 --> 00:01:15.640
then Dane and Colby, who now played drums and bass,

22
00:01:15.760 --> 00:01:18.519
were just local fans of the bands that.

23
00:01:18.560 --> 00:01:21.959
We were their favorite band, their favorites band. Ever, isn't

24
00:01:21.959 --> 00:01:25.480
that right, Dane? That is one hundred true, absolutely factual.

25
00:01:25.640 --> 00:01:26.359
This is the truth.

26
00:01:26.560 --> 00:01:29.439
And then they just begged and pleaded so much, like

27
00:01:29.480 --> 00:01:31.159
please let us join the band, please let us join

28
00:01:31.159 --> 00:01:32.719
the band, and then we're like, okay.

29
00:01:32.959 --> 00:01:34.760
So we fucked off these other two guys and we

30
00:01:34.840 --> 00:01:36.760
got Dane and Colby and and here we are.

31
00:01:37.400 --> 00:01:37.640
See.

32
00:01:37.719 --> 00:01:40.640
I love stories like that for a couple of reasons.

33
00:01:41.840 --> 00:01:47.519
One is the fact that you know, basically that you

34
00:01:47.879 --> 00:01:52.200
take on these fans, they're gonna be so good in

35
00:01:52.319 --> 00:01:57.200
the band because they're already like so into it. Yeah okay,

36
00:01:58.000 --> 00:02:02.400
And I think it kind of forms a bond that's

37
00:02:02.879 --> 00:02:04.560
not breakable very easily.

38
00:02:05.000 --> 00:02:08.159
Yeah, Like i'd say, like for Colby, jamo a guitaris

39
00:02:08.240 --> 00:02:09.080
is one of his heroes.

40
00:02:10.319 --> 00:02:12.439
Yeah, yeah, that's also factual. I would agree.

41
00:02:13.840 --> 00:02:16.680
What's it feel like being in the band that you

42
00:02:16.960 --> 00:02:18.080
absolutely loved?

43
00:02:19.520 --> 00:02:23.240
It's just fun honestly, Like that, you can kind of

44
00:02:23.280 --> 00:02:26.479
picture the ulternate timeline where it's like, now we're a dark,

45
00:02:26.719 --> 00:02:30.159
mysterious heavy metal band, and it's like, man, that's just

46
00:02:30.240 --> 00:02:32.120
like not genuine, that's not who we are for real.

47
00:02:33.240 --> 00:02:34.479
Well, you know, it's funny.

48
00:02:34.520 --> 00:02:36.919
You should say that, because it is funny with the

49
00:02:37.000 --> 00:02:40.919
outside world thinks of us metal heads, you know. And

50
00:02:41.159 --> 00:02:43.560
I've had interviews with people and like some of the

51
00:02:43.680 --> 00:02:45.759
artists will be like, yeah, let's keep them thinking we're

52
00:02:45.840 --> 00:02:47.039
these scary dudes.

53
00:02:47.479 --> 00:02:49.560
We're dark and twisted, right.

54
00:02:50.800 --> 00:02:54.199
And I find that the metal community I talk about

55
00:02:54.240 --> 00:02:56.879
it all the time is like the nicest.

56
00:02:56.560 --> 00:02:57.439
People, dude.

57
00:02:58.520 --> 00:03:01.439
Like you watch any mosh pits folds down, everyone stops

58
00:03:01.479 --> 00:03:03.199
and picks them back up, like no doubt.

59
00:03:03.319 --> 00:03:06.680
Yeah, Like it's very very much a community.

60
00:03:06.840 --> 00:03:10.080
Absolutely, And I actually have a solution to all the

61
00:03:10.159 --> 00:03:14.000
world's problems right now, which there's a lot. Yeah, I

62
00:03:14.159 --> 00:03:19.120
think we should have one. I could name probably one

63
00:03:19.159 --> 00:03:20.560
hundred up from the States.

64
00:03:20.639 --> 00:03:21.039
Oh yeah.

65
00:03:21.560 --> 00:03:25.000
So like I'm like feeling really at peace being here

66
00:03:25.080 --> 00:03:28.240
and away from the crazies, you know. But I think

67
00:03:28.319 --> 00:03:31.919
we should have a music festival for the whole world

68
00:03:32.120 --> 00:03:38.000
that everybody's required to attend and then everybody just works

69
00:03:38.039 --> 00:03:39.199
it out in the mosh pit.

70
00:03:39.560 --> 00:03:40.319
And what do we call it?

71
00:03:42.400 --> 00:03:45.360
Fuck the World Festival, Fuck.

72
00:03:45.159 --> 00:03:48.400
The World Festival. I'm there, we're playing there.

73
00:03:48.479 --> 00:03:49.560
It is here the first.

74
00:03:49.360 --> 00:03:51.759
Person, assay, and I didn't even think of what I would.

75
00:03:51.599 --> 00:03:54.719
Name it, And there it is, Fuck the World Festival, yep.

76
00:03:55.919 --> 00:03:58.680
Or we could say fuck the World leaders that's too much,

77
00:03:58.800 --> 00:03:59.479
just fuck the world.

78
00:03:59.479 --> 00:04:01.039
I'm trying to get a viser at the moment, so

79
00:04:01.280 --> 00:04:02.199
probably what I saw that one.

80
00:04:02.479 --> 00:04:07.240
Yeah, right, listen, don't feel bad.

81
00:04:08.280 --> 00:04:11.560
I leave the country a lot, the United States, and

82
00:04:12.039 --> 00:04:15.919
every time I go back, they fucking give me a

83
00:04:16.000 --> 00:04:18.480
hard time getting back in my own coat. Really, and

84
00:04:18.600 --> 00:04:20.759
they even asked me why are you here? Well, did

85
00:04:20.800 --> 00:04:23.639
you not look I live here? Like what's wrong with you?

86
00:04:23.959 --> 00:04:27.600
Oh my god, it's ridiculous, Like I'm just here like

87
00:04:27.680 --> 00:04:29.519
a bous Now.

88
00:04:29.600 --> 00:04:30.800
I could come into the UK.

89
00:04:31.120 --> 00:04:33.879
It takes me two seconds and nobody asked me anything, like,

90
00:04:34.079 --> 00:04:36.519
I don't get it, Like why is it so hard

91
00:04:36.560 --> 00:04:37.319
for me to go home?

92
00:04:39.000 --> 00:04:39.199
Yeah?

93
00:04:40.040 --> 00:04:43.199
You know, but marsh pits, like we were talking about.

94
00:04:43.279 --> 00:04:46.120
That's why I have that idea because I think marsh

95
00:04:46.160 --> 00:04:48.360
pits have saved a lot of people in my life,

96
00:04:48.920 --> 00:04:51.439
meaning because I didn't kick the shit out of them

97
00:04:51.519 --> 00:04:53.959
on the streets. You know, I got all my shit

98
00:04:54.040 --> 00:04:56.079
out in the pit, and then I'll have to kick

99
00:04:56.120 --> 00:04:56.600
their ass.

100
00:04:58.040 --> 00:04:59.519
And I think if it's fair game as well, in

101
00:04:59.560 --> 00:05:02.120
the mush, everybody feels like they're on an equal playing field,

102
00:05:02.240 --> 00:05:04.560
like everybody's gonna get out as much aggression as they

103
00:05:04.600 --> 00:05:07.839
want and then the world's gonna be finally at peace.

104
00:05:08.519 --> 00:05:11.879
Exactly, And I'll tell you what else too. So a

105
00:05:11.959 --> 00:05:14.000
couple of years ago when Bring Me to Rise and

106
00:05:14.120 --> 00:05:17.480
Headline Download, I was in their pit and there was

107
00:05:17.519 --> 00:05:22.360
a dude. Hmmm, that guy over there, he's small compared

108
00:05:22.439 --> 00:05:25.279
to the dude, Okay, the big guy is. This guy

109
00:05:25.439 --> 00:05:28.519
was like, I don't know, six foot seven and a

110
00:05:28.680 --> 00:05:31.920
fuck six seven and a buff dude, and he went,

111
00:05:33.040 --> 00:05:35.560
you know, yeah, we do feet and inches like we

112
00:05:35.639 --> 00:05:38.759
don't do centimeters. So I don't know how to even

113
00:05:38.879 --> 00:05:44.199
translate that to you. Uh it's tall, We'll just say that.

114
00:05:45.079 --> 00:05:47.600
But he he was a big dude, and he went

115
00:05:47.720 --> 00:05:50.120
in there like a lot of big dudes do to

116
00:05:50.240 --> 00:05:53.480
show how tough he was. It's not what the pit's about, dude,

117
00:05:53.879 --> 00:05:56.439
you know. And I love those dudes in the pick

118
00:05:56.480 --> 00:05:59.319
because I'm a little guy. And I'll come around and

119
00:05:59.399 --> 00:06:02.120
i'll do like Mike Tyson. I'll get down low, come up,

120
00:06:02.240 --> 00:06:03.959
elbow you, and I'll be on the other side of pit.

121
00:06:04.040 --> 00:06:05.079
You won't even know who hit you.

122
00:06:05.240 --> 00:06:06.519
I thought you were gonna say, you're gonna body his

123
00:06:06.639 --> 00:06:06.920
ear off.

124
00:06:07.600 --> 00:06:10.120
I could do that too, if but I can't reach

125
00:06:10.240 --> 00:06:14.240
he's too big, scrap, you know. So, uh.

126
00:06:15.959 --> 00:06:19.079
Did you have speaking of that. Did you happen to

127
00:06:19.240 --> 00:06:23.160
see that they had a commercial. I don't know if

128
00:06:23.160 --> 00:06:25.000
they had it over here, but in the States with

129
00:06:25.160 --> 00:06:28.600
him in holy Field hanging out and they had a

130
00:06:28.800 --> 00:06:32.160
cake for something and it was an ear and it

131
00:06:32.279 --> 00:06:33.680
was what an ear.

132
00:06:35.160 --> 00:06:36.959
Finally gets to relive the Golden mermad.

133
00:06:37.120 --> 00:06:39.120
I know, right, dude, there's like some of the mic

134
00:06:39.199 --> 00:06:41.240
toss and stuff. There's like a mic toss in ear

135
00:06:41.319 --> 00:06:43.519
weed grind up, so it just looks like an ear.

136
00:06:45.560 --> 00:06:47.319
He's got some shit going around.

137
00:06:47.639 --> 00:06:49.680
It's so funny, man. Uh.

138
00:06:50.240 --> 00:06:53.040
But this dude was going in to try to hurt people,

139
00:06:53.879 --> 00:06:58.639
and what ended up happens. First, everybody started ganging up

140
00:06:58.720 --> 00:07:01.199
on him to remove him, and this dude bigger than

141
00:07:01.279 --> 00:07:04.759
him came up to him and he goes, hey, why

142
00:07:04.800 --> 00:07:08.160
don't you pick on somebody your own size, And you

143
00:07:08.240 --> 00:07:10.279
could see the look in his eye that the other.

144
00:07:10.279 --> 00:07:13.120
Dude was like, yeah, I better not fuck with this dude, and.

145
00:07:13.240 --> 00:07:17.519
He physically removed him from the pit. And I've watched

146
00:07:17.600 --> 00:07:20.079
the whole time this dude stayed out of the pit

147
00:07:20.319 --> 00:07:23.240
like on the outskirts and didn't do it again.

148
00:07:24.000 --> 00:07:26.639
Gotta remember you can be a big prick in the pit.

149
00:07:26.800 --> 00:07:28.879
But there will always be a bigger prick.

150
00:07:29.199 --> 00:07:32.720
That's right, and we'll all us ankle biters will come

151
00:07:33.199 --> 00:07:35.040
gang up on you and take you down and take

152
00:07:35.079 --> 00:07:38.639
you out of the pit. Like, don't do that, Like

153
00:07:38.879 --> 00:07:41.759
just be cool man, you know, just because you're bit

154
00:07:42.040 --> 00:07:44.360
you don't need to show you're tough. That's what we're

155
00:07:44.399 --> 00:07:49.040
all about. We're about family being together, picking each other

156
00:07:49.199 --> 00:07:51.879
up and taking care of each other. And the world

157
00:07:51.920 --> 00:07:54.079
can learn a lesson from metal heads for sure.

158
00:07:54.800 --> 00:07:57.519
Honestly, fuck the World Festival twenty twenty seven and so

159
00:07:57.600 --> 00:07:58.199
we'll coming back.

160
00:07:58.399 --> 00:08:01.199
Yeah, yeah, don't be a prick in the pit there

161
00:08:01.240 --> 00:08:01.480
it is.

162
00:08:02.040 --> 00:08:06.920
Don't be a prick, go to the head wreck pit.

163
00:08:08.199 --> 00:08:08.639
That works.

164
00:08:09.800 --> 00:08:13.560
So now what else you got going on after this festival?

165
00:08:13.680 --> 00:08:16.839
So we've already been here for about five or six weeks.

166
00:08:18.079 --> 00:08:20.639
Just we did a tour with pow Dusk, a few

167
00:08:20.879 --> 00:08:24.600
UK headline shows and stuff. But yeah, we have only

168
00:08:24.600 --> 00:08:26.879
another three shows left. A support with Wee came as

169
00:08:27.000 --> 00:08:29.519
Romans and then to Throne and then yeah, back to

170
00:08:29.600 --> 00:08:33.080
OZ on Wednesday for after what's been a very long

171
00:08:33.200 --> 00:08:33.840
seven weeks.

172
00:08:34.480 --> 00:08:36.240
Oh yes, it has shure been long.

173
00:08:37.440 --> 00:08:40.799
You should be on the radio, the radio yeah, like me,

174
00:08:41.440 --> 00:08:42.840
you got the radio voice.

175
00:08:43.759 --> 00:08:47.519
You're listening to headreck one, O two point three, Jack

176
00:08:47.639 --> 00:08:48.639
In and Jack Off.

177
00:08:51.559 --> 00:08:53.320
I think we need to end there because it's only

178
00:08:53.360 --> 00:08:56.440
gonna go downhill from here. You should have done that

179
00:08:56.559 --> 00:08:59.480
for my station. So we're W four c Y Radio.

180
