From Local Girl to Miss Rocklahoma 2025: Daysha Goins' Inspiring Interview

0:05 Hey, you're listening to Adventure on W4CY Radio. This is Pipe Man here on the Adventure's Pipe Man W4CY Radio, and I'm here with. Daisha Goins, Miss Rock, Oklahoma 2025. Nice. And we're here at Rock, Oklahoma. So tell me about your journey. Yeah. Getting to not only... become Miss Rock, Oklahoma in 2025, but actually getting to be one of the people in it. Yeah. So a lot of people ask how you become Miss Rock, Oklahoma.

0:46 And every summer they put out an application for people to apply. They'll go through the applications and narrow it down to top 10. If you make top 10, it turns into public voting. So everybody online gets to vote for you. Um, The public voting narrows it down to top five, and then the Friday afternoon of Rock, Oklahoma, there will be a panel interview, and each top five contestant gets interviewed by that panel. And then usually around the later afternoon, we'll bring them up on main stage, Freedom Stage, and we'll crown the winner each year. So that's how the process works. As for winning Miss Rock, Oklahoma 2025, it felt like a fever dream almost.

1:31 Nice. It took a long time for it to feel real. So I was the first local girl to win Miss Rock, Oklahoma. Which is so weird to me. I would think it would always be a local girl. No, it can be anybody. I believe the girl that won this year, Mallory, she's from Kansas. Wow. See, I always would think that it should be somebody from Oklahoma. It was nice to be local, I will say that. And that's probably why you made it through that first part, because everybody wants to root for the local, right? It was nice, yeah. I had a lot of people cheering me on, and it was really cool to see that work out, so. So what do you think made the judges pick you in the final analysis, if you were to guess?

2:16 It's funny that you say that. So my motto is to be my genuine self no matter what. So I just showed up with having confidence in that. If I'm enough, I'm enough. And if I'm not, I'm not. And that's okay. See, I love that. Because that's the only way anybody should be. And it's pretty transparent when people aren't. Yeah. You know, just my philosophy is you do you. Yeah, 100%. And so do you think there's something about who you are and your personality that appealed to the public and to the judges? I feel as though I like to explain myself as human in sunshine form, and I feel as though people might gravitate to that type of energy, and that's how I try to portray myself, right? I want to be energy that people can gravitate to, and I think there's kind of an edge on that, right?

3:12 Yeah. So if you're somebody that people can approach, that's perfect for this position because you're here to promote Rock, Oklahoma, so you want to be approachable. Exactly. I feel like that that was a quality that I had. And I had met you, and I agree with that because you are just this ball of positive energy. And I'm also a motivational speaker, so I like that. Thank you. So what made you decide to go for Miss Rock, Oklahoma? My mom. And I say that because I'm my mom's only girl out of four siblings. And when I look at her, I realize that She wants to do amazing things, but sometimes she holds herself back. So I took it as an opportunity of, well, one, loving the festival and feeling as though I would be good at being Miss Rock, Oklahoma.

4:06 I also did it for her to show her that you can do anything that you set your mind to, and it kind of helps her be her authentic self as well. I love that. So she's been by me the entire time. That's great. That's the daughter teaching the mother. Yeah. That's super cool. So you said what it takes to be Mr. Oklahoma. Now that the fun part's over, what's the job part for the next year? Yeah, so the job part of it all is, Miss Rock, Oklahoma is the face of Rock, Oklahoma for that year. So what I did with that, especially being local, was trying to find any opportunity I could to attend an event, a local concert. I went back to my hometown school and did some things with them. And then I took it up a notch and I created TikTok and Instagram for Mr. Oklahoma 2025 and I wanted to promote some of the bands for this year and things like that and it ended up it ended up doing what I wanted it to do I was able to introduce people to new artists and new bands and that's what I felt my job was so outside of the asks of the guitar auction on stage and stuff like that in the off season I made sure to promote them on social media.

5:22 That's pretty cool and so What's the most fun part of being Miss Rock, Oklahoma? To be honest, the most fun part is getting to connect with the bands and the artists and people like you, especially in media. Just making those connections, they stick, like, lifelong. They're through it all. So Fox and Veed, they were here last year. We're actually still pretty close. We're going to see them here at the Vanguard, and it's nice to see... them recognize you, right? To want to come back and have a conversation with you. So I think that's been the most fun part in addition to getting to know the contestants each year. That's always exciting. That girlhood is nice.

6:02 And what do you love about Rock, Oklahoma? So I think you know that a lot of people think They have this assumption of Rock, Oklahoma and that it's a bad place to be and there's so much trouble. And the first time I was able to attend, I was by myself. I took my mom's ticket. Good for you. I was running around by myself. And immediately I was like, this feels like home. Everybody says that it feels like home. Everybody was so nice and helpful. And seeing how the community comes together and they're there for each other no matter what. it makes you fall in love instantly. So the fact that the community can wrap you in like that and you just get to enjoy the music alongside of that is pretty cool.

6:51 Yeah, so I'm originally from New York and New Jersey. Okay. And I live in South Florida. And before I came to Rock, Oklahoma for the first time, which I've been doing for years, I'm like, you know, to your point, what am I going to do in Oklahoma, I'm thinking. And then now that I've been here several years, I do it every year because, A, you spot on. The people are so nice. And like I've made lifelong friends here that I don't have at home. 100%. You know? People in Florida are assholes. And then, like, I just love the comfort of Rock, Lahoma.

7:37 I agree. You know, it's not like the corporate festivals and all the rules and everything. It's just like you can just be comfortable and do your thing, and everybody acts appropriately. It's literally in the middle of a hayfield. It's like coming home. Right, right. And then, you know, the campgrounds. Oh, my God. It's the most insane campground anywhere. This is the only festival, and I do, like, 20 or more a year. Yeah. It's the only festival I camp at as media. Oh, really? Yeah, because the campground's just so insane. Yeah. Like, there's so much to see, so much to do. 100%. Listen, I'm looking forward to the end of tonight because I haven't slept in three days.

8:23 I'm pretty sure one of the campgrounds, or I don't know if it was like a collective of them, but they had like a haunted house type of thing. Yeah, I went through that last night. I didn't go through it yet. They had a haunted house. There's a place with popcorn. They have people that have makeshift bars that they serve shots. A friend of mine I met the first year and I was neighboring camping has a school bus with a deck built on top of it. Yep. And that bus is the coolest thing ever. I went there last night and basically, you know how I found it? Well, I knew where it was, but my guiding light wasn't the North Star. It was a bunch of the neon wristbands flying in the air. Yeah.

9:09 Oh my gosh, I love it. So like, there it is. Yeah, that's it. I love it. That's so fun. And then you have this other one, Camp Rocklaholic, that has bands all day, every day. Yeah. Go ahead. I was just going to say, I think Stinkbite Whiskey's there tonight. They are tonight. And, you know, all my friends are in it. So it's like, Oh, my God. I got to stay out all night so I could see their band. Like, last night I had to be there at 1. The night before, 1.30. And now I don't even want to know when Snakebite Whiskey is tonight. You just get a power cat nap. That's all you get here. Exactly. I did that the other night, and I never take naps. I never use an alarm clock. But for the 130 gig, and it was so hot, and it was my longest day of interviews, that I went to my vehicle, turned on the air, turned on an alarm for an hour later, and crashed.

10:08 Cat nap. I was like, okay, let's go. It helps, yep. Gives you a little pep in your step. You're ready to go. Exactly. What else would you want to do in the future? with this and like use it for doing good things. Yeah. I thought about this last night because like I said, it's a little sad knowing that the whole year, like this year went by so fast, but when I was thinking about it last night, I told myself I'm will forever be Mr. Oklahoma 2025. So I'm going to continue my social media with that. I also let Erin, the first Miss Rock, Oklahoma contestant winner, let her know if there's anything I can do to help them out. I'm happy to do so. And I'll just continue to support the local bands, the up and coming artists. I like to go to the Vanguard and support them. So mom and I always have a competition on who can find the newest artists and share it first. So I'll continue that as well and just make my presence still be known, knowing in the back of my head I'm a former Miss Oklahoma winner.

11:14 There you go. Well, I think it's kind of like the Marines. Like once you're a winner, you're always. 100%. You're one forever. There is no former. Exactly. That's true. That's true. I will always be Miss Rocklahoma. That's true. You know, and I love that you have that kind of relationship with your mother because not everybody does. Yeah. You know, so it's kind of cool that you can feed off of each other like that. She's my best friend. I love hearing that. Is there anything else you want to tell the listeners that we haven't covered already? And plus, tell them your socials and every way to connect with you. I would just encourage, I have two words of encouragement. I would encourage people to apply for Miss Rock, Oklahoma. I hear a lot of, oh, I don't have what it takes. Just be yourself. There are people who will look up to you because you are you. So don't let anything hold you back from applying. The other thing I would say is what we mentioned at the beginning of our conversation was just be your authentic, genuine self, no matter where you are. Same thing, same rules apply.

12:13 There are people who want to be around you because you are you. So never, never, never, never take that for granted. Have confidence in that. Nice. And I got to tell you, I'm impressed too because this heat and you've been here all weekend and you don't have to be. Since Thursday, yeah. So that shows your dedication and love for this. Thank you.
